Attend the Wild Side of Blended Learning Conference at the Columbus Zoo

The second-annual Wild Side of Blended Learning Conference is set to take place at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium on June 15. Organized by Blended Learning Expert and Alpha Squirrel Marcia Kish (@dsdPD), attendees will learn how to implement and improve blended learning practices in the classroom.

Blended learning experts will be on hand to share their epic “FAILs” (First Attempts In Learning), as well as key aspects of a successful blended learning environment.

“This is not your typical conference platform,” Kish said. “As a participant, you will be creating, collaborating, communicating and using critical thinking skills as you expand upon your blended learning pedagogy while overlooking African savanna at the Columbus Zoo. You will get to learn from educators, administrators and coaches that have implemented blended learning into their classrooms and schools.”

Wild Side of Blended Learning sessions include:

  • Examining the three stages of blended learning
  • Using data to drive the classroom
  • Tools and techniques to create collaboration and creativity within the blended learning environment
  • Design and classroom ideas for the blended learning environment
  • How to use mobile device technology to engage students

“If you are starting to think about implementing blended learning into your classroom, or if you have already started the blended learning journey, then you don’t want to miss this conference,” Kish said. “The Wild Side of Blended Learning Conference only happens once a year!”

The Squirrels Monthly Roundup – April 2016

Squirrels April Edcamps

April was a busy month here at the Squirrels HQ. We prepared donations, coupons, prize packs and lanyards for nearly 1,000 Edcamps attendees in three different states and two countries!

Two of our very own Alpha Squirrels, Travis Lape and Kyle Pearce, coordinated Edcamp South Dakota and EdcampSWO (Southwest Ontario). With these two events in different areas of the country, we saw great insight on the challenges educators face in their classrooms, organic or technology driven.

Edcamp Ashland and EdcampNEO (Northeast Ohio) were next, and a little closer to home. We loved the opportunity to work with these local schools to learn how they incorporate technology into their classroom environment.

We didn’t stop there! We ended our month-long Edcamp journey on a high note with EdcampGroveCity and EdcampOhio. Although we could not attend either of these two events,  the attendees had a great day of conversation and problem solving.

Attendees were able to discover some powerful solutions to implement in their own classroom setting to create a fun and efficient place to learn. We’re proud of all the hard work accomplished by these schools and educators.

We want to give a shoutout to our Alpha Squirrels, Laurie Green, Kelly Croy and Zee Poerio, who attended some of these Edcamps to collaborate with fellow educators and tell others how they use our Reflector 2 desktop screen-mirroring software.

If you weren’t able to attend any of these Edcamps this month, here are some of the popular discussion topics:

  • Twitter 101
  • Tools for the classroom
  • Technology integration tools
  • Video creation tools
  • Formative assessment
  • Flipped classroom
  • Twitter chats
  • Classroom management\

If you are hosting your own Edcamp and are interested in a Squirrels sponsorship, fill out our Edcamp Sign Up Form. Sponsorship may include monetary or swag donations, discounts on our products and more!

Squirrels Giveaway For Teacher Appreciation Week 2016

Teacher Appreciation Week is one of our favorite weeks of the year. An entire week dedicated to the young mind molders and avid users of our classroom mirroring solutions? Sounds good to us!

Teaching is often a thankless profession. That’s why this week, the Squirrels team put together a few surprises for teachers around the world as a small way to show our thanks.

Monday, May 2
We’re taking 30% off our AirParrot 2 Mac/PC mirroring software until midnight when you use promo code “APteacherAP2016” at checkout in our online store.

AirParrot 2 allows you to wirelessly mirror a real-time view of Mac or PC screens and stream content to Apple TV, Chromecast and Reflector-enabled devices. Classrooms using Microsoft Surface Pro tablets find AirParrot 2 useful since Surface Pros do not have a built-in mirroring technology like iPads (AirPlay), Chromebooks and Android Devices (Cast). AirParrot 2 adds that capability to Surface Pros so students can wirelessly display the tablets to an Apple TV, Chromecast or any teacher computer running Reflector 2.

Wednesday, May 4
We’re having a another special, one-day sale on Wednesday. We can’t say what it is quite yet! Stay tuned to our Squirrels, Reflector and AirParrot Twitter accounts to find out Wednesday morning!
