Squirrels Named North Canton Business of the Year

Squirrels Business of the Year 2016

We are proud to announce that Squirrels LLC has been named Business of the Year by the North Canton Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber overwhelmingly voted in favor of Squirrels and recognized the company at an Annual Awards Dinner on March 2. Squirrels also received letters of recognition from several state representatives, including Ohio Sens. Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown; Ohio Gov. John Kasich; Ohio Reps. Jim Renacci and Bob Gibbs; and Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted.

Previous recipients of this award include Giant Eagle, Akron-Canton Airport, Harry London’s Candies, Inc. and The Hoover Company.

Nine members of the Squirrels team attended the event and watched as Squirrels co-founder Andrew Gould gave a speech accepting the honor for the company.

Gould reflected, “It’s awesome and honestly a little bit funny to receive this award almost eight years after starting the company. After eight years and 35 employees, we are deeply tied to our community and take great pride in receiving this award amongst other successful businesses.”

Squirrels wasn’t the only winner of the night. Linda Cavella, A Time to Dance owner, received the Community Arts Award; TD’s Tailgate Grill/Twisted Citrus received the Community Investment Award; Elec Simon, world-renowned percussionist, received the Community Contribution Award; Altercare of Ohio received the Chamber Appreciation Award; Norma Capocci, of the North Canton Playhouse, received the Ellen Gray Volunteer of the Year Award; and finally Koala Kruizers, a local transportation system, received the North Canton Business of Character Award.

Following the awards ceremony, Statehouse News Bureau Chief Karen Kasler presented a political report on Ohio’s role in the upcoming presidential election. Karen is a regular reporter on local radio station 89.7 WKSU and hosts the State of Ohio television program.

This honor comes after Fortune Magazine recently named Squirrels the third Best Workplace in Technology in the nation and one of the 50 Best Workplaces for Camaraderie.

The Squirrels Monthly Edcamp Roundup – February 2016

The Squirrels team had a busy February coordinating Edcamp sponsorships around the country. South Dakota was first on our list in February followed by Edcamp Phoenix and Edcamp T-County.

Nearly 300 educators, administrators, tech coordinators and more attended these Edcamps to discuss the latest industry trends, as well as challenges that are faced in the classroom.

One of our Alpha Squirrels, Travis Lape, organized Edcamp South Dakota! We’re lucky to have ambassadors from all over the globe in the EdTech community representing our company and our products. Travis is also organizing another Edcamp in South Dakota for April.

Edcamp T-County was in our neck of the woods— Northeast Ohio. We had two members of the Squirrels team attend and soak up how teachers are (or are not) using technology in their classroom.

Although we were not able to attend Edcamp Phoenix, we were able to follow their Twitter feed throughout the day to see how everyone collaborated together.

If you weren’t able to attend any of the Edcamps this month, here are some of the popular discussion topics:

  • Foldables in the classroom
  • SeeSaw
  • Google classroom
  • High school technology training in the classroom
  • One-to-one tech strategies
  • Chrome extensions and google add-ons
  • Hyperdocs
  • Technology integration
  • Social media in the classroom
  • Flipped classroom

We hope that all the Edcamps we sponsored this month provided each attendee with a positive experience full of learning and professional development!

Edcamp T-County Edcamp T-County was just a short drive from the Squirrels office!

Squirrels Attends North Carolina Technology in Education Society (NCTIES)

NC Ties 2016

We’re excited to join the annual NCTIES conference in Raleigh, North Carolina, this week to showcase our products and observe how the latest education technology is integrated into classrooms.

Two members of the Squirrels team will make the 500-mile trip from North Canton, Ohio, to Raleigh to join teachers, tech facilitators and coaches, administrators and media specialists at North Carolina’s premier conference.

This North Carolina EdTech conference is an ISTE affiliate that provides a multitude of professional development opportunities, including more than 150 sessions, informal meet and greets, keynotes, featured speakers and a vendor exhibit hall.

Blended Learning Coach and Alpha Squirrel, Marcia Kish, will feature our industry-leading Reflector 2 screen-mirroring app in her session, “Explore the 7 C’s of Blended Learning,” on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. Marcia is an active participant in the EdTech community and also runs http://dsdprofessionaldevelopment.com. Squirrels Increasing Edcamp Efforts in 2016

Are you hosting or starting an Edcamp without all the resources you need? Look no further! The Squirrels team is always searching for opportunities to work with teachers and educators from across the country, so we decided to increase our Edcamp sponsorship efforts in 2016.

A Squirrels sponsorship can make a big difference for Edcamp organizers and attendees. We can provide you with a monetary donation, swag or both to make your Edcamp unforgettable. You just have to let us know! Monetary and swag donation amounts depend on the number of anticipated attendees for the event.

Another perk of a Squirrels Edcamp sponsorship is that we will arrange for each organizer to receive a free license of Reflector 2, our wireless screen-sharing software, to use in their classroom and review on their own professional blog. Who doesn’t love free products, right?

Additionally, each attendee is given a coupon code for Reflector 2. We think every school should be equipped with Reflector 2, and we’re committed to making that happen.

Even after all of the benefits listed above, we still have a few more treats for Edcamp organizers!

We take great pride in providing the education industry with the tools they need to succeed, so we want to make sure it is just as much a fit for us as it is for you. To apply for a sponsorship, log in to our website and fill out the Edcamp Sponsorship Form and tell us why you want us to sponsor your Edcamp!

Squirrels to Attend Ohio Education Technology Conference

OETC 2016 logoMembers of the Squirrels team are excited to accompany more than 4,000 education technology professionals and enthusiasts this week at the Ohio Education Technology Conference (OETC) in Columbus. Educators come from all over our home state of Ohio for this annual event. We're traveling the quick two-hour drive from our North Canton offices for our third OETC experience. We expect it to be the best one yet!

OETC provides educators with a great opportunity to learn about the latest trends, tools and thought leaders that are revolutionizing the education landscape. We always enjoy connecting with tech-minded educators and showing them how to use Reflector 2 in the classroom.

We’re also lucky enough to have Blended Learning Coach and first-class Alpha Squirrel Marcia Kish present at OETC this year. She’ll be discussing Reflector 2 among other apps that increase classroom productivity at her pre-conference session, “AppSmashing 101,” today at 2 p.m. You can contact Marcia directly on twitter (@dsdPD) or email her at [email protected] to learn more.

Don’t be afraid to stop by booth 638A to learn more about Reflector 2 or even just to say hi! We’re always eager to demonstrate the latest classroom screen-mirroring magic. Here’s to a great OETC week!
