Cord Cutter’s Guide: How to Stream Saturday Night Live

“Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!"

You don’t need to be a comedy buff to know where this line is from.

Saturday Night Live has been one of the leading comedy staples on NBC since 1975, with celebrity hosts such as Steve Martin, Christopher Walken, John Goodman, Tom Hanks and Jimmy Fallon. Over the years SNL has contributed to some of the most memorable (and quotable) moments on TV with More Cowbell, Wayne’s World, Celebrity Jeopardy, Adam Sandler’s Hanukkah song, Chippendale’s Audition and the Church Lady.

Don’t miss a second of cold opens, Weekend Update or monologues because you don’t have a cable subscription. Here are three ways you can stream all the skits online.

Sling TV

Sling TV is one of the top ways that cord cutters can stream live TV without a cable subscription. Subscribers who choose the Sling Blue package ($25/mo) have access to a number of channels including NBC. However, if you only want to watch one particular episode, you can try Sling TV free for seven days!

Note: NBC live local feed in select markets, on-demand elsewhere.

PlayStation Vue

Good news, PlayStation owners! You too can stream your favorite channels all from your gaming console. With plans starting at $29.99-$39.99 a month depending on your market (for 50+ channels including NBC), Vue offers a great value for cord-cutters. This service is compatible with PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Try it free!

Note: NBC is now offered in most areas across the nation, but it’s on-demand only. NBC live streaming is not offered nationwide by Vue at this time

DirecTV NOW

One of the newest solutions for cord cutters is DirecTV NOW by AT&T. This online streaming service offers you more than 60 TV channels for $35/mo without a contract (or you can try it free for seven days). DirecTV NOW offers NBC in select areas. You can use this service on most streaming devices including computers and mobile devices.

Note: Plug your zipcode into the websites for SlingVue, and DirecTV Now to see if you can get the feeds mentioned below.

Digital Antenna

NBC programming will be available over the air if you are connected with an antenna and in range of the local broadcast area. That means you can actually watch many of your NBC favorites for free including Saturday Night Live. Here’s how to choose the best antenna for you.

Pro tip:

Finding ways to stream live TV is only half the battle for cord cutters. After all, nobody wants to watch a hilarious Bill Hader skit with a roomful of people crowded around a tiny computer screen. Download AirParrot 2 on your Mac or PC to wirelessly mirror that live broadcast from your computer directly to an Apple TV or Chromecast.

Use Sling TV or DirecTV Now in the Chrome or Firefox browser to stream the event. Then open AirParrot and select your browser as the “From” option. Select your Apple TV or Chromecast as the “To” option. This will allow you to experience all the laughs on the big screen.

The image below was taken from the AirParrot menu and shows you how to do this. You simply select your browser or application. Then select where to send it.

Cord Cutter’s Guide: How to Stream the 2017 Super Bowl

It’s time for the Super Bowl! The New England Patriots are set to take on the Atlanta Falcons in Houston for the final game of the season. The Patriots have won the Super Bowl four times since Tom Brady took over, but the Matt Ryan-led Falcons will use the best offense in the NFL this season to try to claim the franchise’s first championship.

Grab your friends, grab the chips and grab your computer, because we’re going to tell you how you can stream the most important game of the NFL season online without a cable subscription.

Fox Sports Go

FOX will be streaming the game FOR FREE online at foxsportsgo.com. Fox is waiving its normal paid TV authentication for this sports event. Keep in mind, the commercials may not come with this stream. Local commercials will be displayed as opposed to the much-anticipated, nationally broadcasted Super Bowl commercials.

Pro tip:

Finding ways to stream live TV is only half the battle for cord cutters. After all, nobody wants to watch a game-winning touchdown pass with a roomful of people crowded around a tiny computer screen. Download AirParrot 2 on your Mac or PC to wirelessly mirror that live broadcast from your computer directly to an Apple TV or Chromecast.

Use Sling TV or Fox Sports Go in the Chrome or Firefox browser to stream the event. Then open AirParrot and select your browser as the “From” option. Select your Apple TV or Chromecast as the “To” option. This will allow you to experience all the action on the big screen.

Gym Class JitterBug: How To Play The Game Teachers Are Raving About

A video began circulating on Facebook about a week ago that showed elementary-aged kids frantically throwing dodgeballs at a wall trying to smash virtual bugs. That video now has over 30 million views, and it recently became the number one post on the front page of Reddit.

What is this game….and how can you bring it to your school’s gymnasium? Turns out it’s pretty simple.

The video was originally posted on the West Elementary School (Batesville, Arkansas) Facebook page. The teacher is using an app called JitterBug. The app was created by Friskies® (yes, the cat food brand) and was originally intended to allow cats to tap interactive bugs on their owners' iPad® or iPhone® (also available for Android™). If you’ve ever owned a cat, you know they have an irresistible urge to swat anything and everything.

Educators have found a new way to use Friskies’ JitterBug app in gym class. They simply wirelessly display their iPad or iPhone onto the wall using a projector. When a student hits a bug on the wall with a ball, the teacher taps the bug on his or her screen to make that bug disappear. To the students, it looks like they are making the bugs disappear when they hit one. In reality, the teacher simply monitors the wall to see which bugs the students hit and then taps the same bugs on the device. Pretty cool, right?

How to projector your iPad or iPhone on the wall

It sounds complicated, but this is very easy as well. In the video, the teacher has the iPad wirelessly mirrored to an Apple TV®, and the Apple TV is connected to a projector. However, PhysEd teacher Jared Carder did it by wirelessly mirroring his iPad to Reflector® software on his computer. His computer was connected to the projector, so he didn’t need an Apple TV at all. Reflector software ($15) is a more cost-effective alternative to Apple TV ($149).

Either way, what a cool use of technology to get kids engaged and moving. The ingenuity of teachers around the world amazes us every day.
