The Squirrels Monthly Edcamp Roundup – July 2016

Summer 2016 has been one of the busiest seasons to date for us. Between launching a new product, attending the largest EdTech conference in the country and developing another new product that’s due fall 2016, we have remained committed to supporting educators. As we start to round out the warmer months in Ohio, it’s time to reflect on the Edcamps that made this summer one to remember.

  • Edcamp IT – Fort Worth, Texas
  • Edcamp Leadership Michigan – Jackson, Mich.
  • Edcamp Leadership Ohio – Gahanna, Ohio
  • Edcamp Literacy – Boston, Mass.
  • Edcamp PBL Ohio – Columbus, Ohio

We were honored to sponsor these events and hope our contributions helped exceed attendees’ expectations. Our donations went toward supplies, door prizes and most importantly, sandwiches (YUM)! We worked with five phenomenal Edcamp organizers who are passionate about what they do and want to share that passion with educators around them. Seeing that drive from these individuals inspires us every day to make software that promotes creativity and a fun learning environment.

Each of these Edcamps showed us what educators are talking about and what ideas are important to them. Here are just a few of the many topics educators discussed during the month of July:

  • iPad apps
  • Chromebooks and Google Classroom
  • New tech tools
  • Planning Edcamps
  • Becoming a connected educator
  • Formative assessment using technology

July was a great month of professional development for 550+ Edcamp attendees! The best part? This year isn’t over yet! We’ll be updating you about more Squirrels Edcamp sponsorships in the coming months.

The Squirrels Monthly Edcamp Roundup – May 2016

It’s that time again, folks! As we look forward to warm summer days, we reflect on all the wonderful professional development opportunities we helped sponsor at Edcamps in May. Our sponsorships spanned across Maryland (EdcampMayaF), Tennessee (Edcamp GigCity), Illinois (Edcamp Illinois) and finished up in our home state of Ohio (Edcamp Cleveland). Now that’s a recipe for a successful month!

Edcamp Gig City

Since we are not always able to attend Edcamps, we love to follow along with the attendees on social media to see what educators are talking about and, of course, how much fun they are having.

Among other things, our May sponsorship donations provided breakfast, lunch, coffee and even a salad/fruit bar for the Edcamps. We’re hungry just thinking about it!

The following discussion topics produced the most hype in May:

  • Blended learning
  • Google Classroom
  • Tech coaching
  • Tech to support reading
  • Flipped classroom
  • Classroom management with tech
  • 1:1 classrooms and managing student behavior
  • 21st century teaching practices
  • Student blogging
  • Gamification

All in all, it was a great month, and we are grateful to all of the Edcamp organizers who allowed us to be part of the experience! We are always so impressed to see how dedicated educators are to their work.

The Squirrels Monthly Roundup – April 2016

Squirrels April Edcamps

April was a busy month here at the Squirrels HQ. We prepared donations, coupons, prize packs and lanyards for nearly 1,000 Edcamps attendees in three different states and two countries!

Two of our very own Alpha Squirrels, Travis Lape and Kyle Pearce, coordinated Edcamp South Dakota and EdcampSWO (Southwest Ontario). With these two events in different areas of the country, we saw great insight on the challenges educators face in their classrooms, organic or technology driven.

Edcamp Ashland and EdcampNEO (Northeast Ohio) were next, and a little closer to home. We loved the opportunity to work with these local schools to learn how they incorporate technology into their classroom environment.

We didn’t stop there! We ended our month-long Edcamp journey on a high note with EdcampGroveCity and EdcampOhio. Although we could not attend either of these two events,  the attendees had a great day of conversation and problem solving.

Attendees were able to discover some powerful solutions to implement in their own classroom setting to create a fun and efficient place to learn. We’re proud of all the hard work accomplished by these schools and educators.

We want to give a shoutout to our Alpha Squirrels, Laurie Green, Kelly Croy and Zee Poerio, who attended some of these Edcamps to collaborate with fellow educators and tell others how they use our Reflector 2 desktop screen-mirroring software.

The Squirrels Monthly Edcamp Roundup – March 2016

The Squirrels team proudly sponsored over 200 attendees this month at EdcampAccessNJ in Morristown, New Jersey. This was the only Edcamp we sponsored in March, as we decided to dedicate most of the month to purchasing some fun, new swag for future Edcamps! Edcamp organizers and attendees, you’re in for a treat!

New Jersey is a little too far for us to travel from our cozy Northeast Ohio office, but we were there in spirit and cheered them on from our social media accounts!

Our Edcamp contributions help educators explore innovative ideas that make learning more engaging for both the teacher and the student. We’re happy to know that our efforts directly enhance the student learning experience.

If you also weren’t able to attend EdcampAccessNJ, here are just a few of the popular discussion topics:

  • Using technology to engage students with learning disabilities
  • Free technology for the classroom
  • Twitter, Voxer, Blab
  • Mashing it up with Chrome
  • Formative assessment
  • Engage with robots
  • Inclusive tech solutions with robotics and “pingable” technology

EdCamp Access NJ Board

We hope all of the EdcampAccessNJ organizers and educators had a positive and rewarding experience!

The Squirrels Monthly Edcamp Roundup – February 2016

The Squirrels team had a busy February coordinating Edcamp sponsorships around the country. South Dakota was first on our list in February followed by Edcamp Phoenix and Edcamp T-County.

Nearly 300 educators, administrators, tech coordinators and more attended these Edcamps to discuss the latest industry trends, as well as challenges that are faced in the classroom.

One of our Alpha Squirrels, Travis Lape, organized Edcamp South Dakota! We’re lucky to have ambassadors from all over the globe in the EdTech community representing our company and our products. Travis is also organizing another Edcamp in South Dakota for April.

Edcamp T-County was in our neck of the woods— Northeast Ohio. We had two members of the Squirrels team attend and soak up how teachers are (or are not) using technology in their classroom.

Although we were not able to attend Edcamp Phoenix, we were able to follow their Twitter feed throughout the day to see how everyone collaborated together.

If you weren’t able to attend any of the Edcamps this month, here are some of the popular discussion topics:

  • Foldables in the classroom
  • SeeSaw
  • Google classroom
  • High school technology training in the classroom
  • One-to-one tech strategies
  • Chrome extensions and google add-ons
  • Hyperdocs
  • Technology integration
  • Social media in the classroom
  • Flipped classroom

We hope that all the Edcamps we sponsored this month provided each attendee with a positive experience full of learning and professional development!
