How to Share Your iPhone, iPad and Android Screen in a Discord Video Call

Written by Squirrels | Mar 18, 2021 7:03:21 PM

Discord is an instant messaging platform that allows users to communicate with text messages, media files, voice calls and video calls in private chats or servers. The platform is most popular among gamers, but it’s also used by clubs, workplaces, friend groups and more. This guide shows you how to wirelessly screen mirror your iPhone, iPad or Android device to Discord so you can stream mobile games like Among Us to your audience or easily collaborate on a group project with your peers.

There are a few ways to share your mobile screen in Discord. Method 1 works if you’re using Discord on your phone or tablet, but it is limited. Method 2 involves a computer app called Reflector, allowing you to multitask, have face-to-face interaction with others on the call while screen sharing and take advantage of more great sharing features.

How to share your iPhone, iPad and Android screen in a Discord Video Call

Method 1: Discord Mobile App

This method uses only your phone/tablet. Multitasking and other advanced features are not available. Jump to Method 2 to learn how to share your mobile device screen while using Discord on desktop (Windows and macOS) and get more features like multitasking.

Step 1

Open the Discord app on your phone or tablet.

Step 2

If you want to share your screen in a direct message, see Step 2.1. If you want to share your screen in a server, see Step 2.2.

Step 2.1 — Share your screen in a direct message

Navigate to the user you want to start a video call with. Tap the video camera icon in the top header. Once you start a video call, jump to Step 3.

Step 2.2 — Share your screen in a server:

Navigate to the server where you want to share your screen and select a voice channel. Tap “Join Voice.” You’ll now be able to hear others in the voice channel and they’ll be able to hear you.

You’ll have the option to share your device camera or your device screen. To share your device camera, tap the camera icon. If you want to only share your screen, move on to Step 3.

Step 3

In the control panel, tap the mobile phone icon.

Step 4

A menu on your phone/tablet will pop up to indicate where you’ll share your screen. Select Discord.

Step 5

Tap “Start Broadcast.” After a brief countdown, a message will let you know you are successfully sharing your screen.
You won’t be able to see others or multitask with other apps on your device, but others will be able to see your device screen. This is how it will appear to them:

Method 2: Use Reflector with the Discord desktop app (multitask, more features, share better)

This method uses both your mobile device and your computer and allows you to multitask and use more features. Reflector is an app for Mac and Windows that allows you to wirelessly screen mirror phones, tablets or other computers to the Reflector-enabled computer.

Sharing this way allows you to do all of the following at the same time:

  • Share your mobile device screen (with option to share your computer screen as well)
  • See others on your computer video call
  • Use your computer to browse the web and use other apps

Step 1

Download and install Reflector on your Mac or Windows computer.

Step 2

Make sure your computer and iPhone, iPad or Android device are connected to the same wifi network.

Step 3

Open Reflector on your computer.

Step 4

Open Discord on your computer.

Step 5

If you want to share your screen in a direct message, see Step 5.1. If you want to share your screen in a server, see Step 5.2.

Step 5.1 — Share your screen in a direct message:

Navigate to the user you want to start a video call with. Click the video camera icon in the top header. Once you start a video call, jump to Step 6.

Step 5.2 — Share your screen in a server:

Navigate to the server where you want to share your screen and select a voice channel. You’ll now be able to hear others in the voice channel and they’ll be able to hear you.

You’ll have the option to share your device camera or your device screen. To share your device camera, click the Video button. If you want to only share your screen, move on to Step 6.

Step 6

On your mobile device, open the screen mirroring/cast options and begin screen mirroring to Reflector.

Not sure how? Check these out:

Step 7

Important: You need to verify a few settings to make sure your iPhone, iPad or Android device screen shares to Discord properly. Once the device is connected to Reflector, hover your cursor over the device and click the settings cog next to the device name. Ensure "Always on Top" and "Fullscreen" are toggled off.

These must be toggled off to successfully begin sharing your device screen over a videoconferencing platform like Discord. If you prefer, you can toggle these settings back on after you begin sharing your screen to Discord (see step 8).

Step 8

In Discord on your computer, click the Share Your Screen button on the left panel or by hovering over your video feed. Select the window with the name of your mobile device. Fill out the information and click “Go Live.”

Now you’re wirelessly sharing your mobile screen to your Discord video call. You can now share your screen from your mobile device while working on your computer screen and seeing others in video chat at the same time.

Pro Tip:

Share your whole desktop in Step 8 so your mobile device screen and computer screen are both visible to others in the Discord video call at the same time. To do this, just select the screens tab then “Desktop” instead of the name of your mobile device in Step 8.
