Phone sharing screen to Microsoft Teams

Professionals working remotely use Microsoft Teams to host online meetings, distance learning classes and video chats. One vital aspect of remote work is the ability to share screens. This guide shows you a couple easy ways to share your iPhone (including iPhone 12), iPad and Android screens in Microsoft Teams. Note: Method 2 allows you to use more features, multitask and share better using the app Reflector.

If you use both a computer and a mobile device for work, your best bet is to skip to method 2. You can share content from your mobile device while using your work computer, or you can share both at the same time.

How to share your iPhone, iPad and Android screen in a Microsoft Teams meeting

Method 1: Microsoft Teams mobile app

This method only applies when using Microsoft Teams on your phone/tablet. Multitasking is not available. Jump to Method 2 to learn how to share your device screen while using Microsoft Teams on desktop and get more features like multitasking.

Step 1

Open the Microsoft Teams app on your phone or tablet.

Step 2

Start or join a meeting.

Step 3

Tap the ellipsis icon in the menu.

Step 4

Tap “Share” and then tap “Share Screen.”

Step 5

A menu will pop up to indicate where you’ll share your screen. Select Microsoft Teams.

Now you are sharing your mobile device screen to your Microsoft Teams meeting. You won’t be able to multitask or see others if you need to use other apps on your device, but your colleagues will be able to see your mobile screen, like this:

Method 2: Use Reflector with Microsoft Teams desktop app (multitask, more features, share better)

This method enables multitasking, introduces more features and allows you to share better. It uses both your mobile device and your computer. Sharing this way allows you to do all of the following at the same time:

  • Share your mobile device screen (with option to share your computer screen as well)
  • See your colleagues on your computer video chat
  • Use your computer to take notes, browse the web and use other apps during the Teams meeting

Use a different videoconferencing platform? This method also works with Zoom, GoToMeeting, Google Meet, Cisco Webex, Slack and Discord.

Step 1

Download and install Reflector on your Mac or Windows computer.

Step 2

Make sure your computer and mobile device are connected to the same wifi network.

Step 3

Launch Reflector on your computer.

Step 4

Open Microsoft Teams on your computer and join a meeting.

Step 5

On your mobile device, open the screen mirroring/cast options and begin screen mirroring to Reflector.

Not sure how? Check these out:

Step 6

Important: To make sure your mobile device screen shares properly, hover over your device in Reflector and click the settings cog next to the device name. Ensure "Always on Top" and "Fullscreen" are toggled off.

RF4-Preferences

These must be toggled off to successfully begin sharing your device screen over a videoconferencing platform like Microsoft Teams. If you prefer, you can toggle these settings back on after you begin presenting your computer screen.

Step 7

In Microsoft Teams on your computer, click the share button and select the option to share the window with the Reflector icon. It will be the name of your mobile device.

Now you’re wirelessly sharing your mobile screen to your Microsoft Teams meeting. You can present from your mobile device while working on your computer screen and seeing your teammates in video chat at the same time.

Everyone will be able to see what's on your phone screen. Learn how to turn off notifications while screen mirroring.

Pro Tip:

You can share your whole desktop so your mobile device screen and computer screen are visible at the same time. To do this, just select “Desktop” instead of the name of your mobile device in Step 7.
